How are You today?

Hello!

Another new day!  A good, bad, empty, full, cloudy, sunny, rainy day, – you just name it. I mean:  Are you ok today?  Even happy, at least at ease and somewhat satisfied?  Or are you down, close to depressed, angry, sorrow,  with pain in your body?

I am no blogger, really. I just want to place you and me into a wider and deeper perspective of OUR SELF in the  universe.

As I have written elsewhere human beings are equippet with a brain and neurological capacity that  exceed all other living creatures in the world. This gives us a many advantages and opportunities. It also gives us a heavy burden of responsability towards plants, trees, animals, fellow human beings, or  Nature itself.woman-in-the-natureWoman in the nature

At the same time it gives us the opportunity to think and to reflect on this miracle we are living upon,  – life on earth, and this wonder we are  living inside, – the universe.

Above all it gives us the opportunity to decide whether we will use our position in the world to continue killing and destructing on a large scale, – rethorically called to “protect ourself” . ( “delivering us from evil”, as it is commonly called in church)

Or shall we decide to use our unprecedented skills in the animal kingdom on earth, –  otherwise?  For example in trying to act like mature grown ups. That is;- helping to heal wounds, and to negotiate acceptable solutions when conflict. Not to mention using our brains and hands to reconnect and rebuild what has been broken, or ruined.

We are not destined  to eternal fight with one another. On the other hand it seems that our developed consciousness  somewhat destine us to have a choice in how we live our lives.

I wish you a day of new insights and hopefully fewer disappointments, and more of what you hope that a new day in your life can bring. Then I boldly say, – in peril of shivering knees:  Bring it on, and let’s see what we can practice and learn today……………………

Mourning With the Americans

Today we mourn with the americans at half mast

Murder as crime, not terror, even if its terrifying.

We have lost nearly fifty young lives because of hatred. This hatred is regardless of politically motivation a devastating crime. Killing innocent people anywhere in the world must be labeled murder and crime, not terror, even if its terrifying.

We send our deepest love to the friends, partners, relatives of the dead and the injured. Today we bless America and feel compassion for you all, – as we here in Europe were true fellow Citizens.

The American Weapon – Boomerang.

If I lived in the US now, I certainly would prefer to by me a gun before going to town. Perhaps not if I lived in the Portland, Oregon region, witch, referring to statistics, have the lowest homicide rate, 1.4 killed per100.000, out of 48 US metropolitan areas.

If, however I had to move to the charming New Orleans area, with 19 killed per 100.000, I most likely would run to the weapon store immediately. Here I would by me a half automatic AR-15, and barricade me and my family inside our little house. Sorry for being a bit paranoid but I follow the news daily.

For a Scandinavian there seems to be a locking paradox embedded in the discussion around Civil Rights, weapon and weapon control in the US. On the News, daily you definitely get the impression that life is very dangerous in America. And on the individual level you surely want to protect yourself and your family.

On the societal level, however we know that easy access to alcohol, drugs, and dope rises the rate of problems, accidents, and disease followed by widespread use of these substances. But what then about having a policy giving easy access to weapons to protect yourself. Does this enhance the rate of killings too?

Like alcohol, drugs and dope, this is a many faceted and complex problem.

Research and statistics gives us a direction

There are nearly 12,000 gun murders a year in the U.S. – and despite falling crime rates, that number has barely changed since the late 1990s. (The US Center for Desease Control)

The overall homicide rate, among the metro areas whose principal city is in a state that requires some form of permit to purchase a gun, is 4.32 per 100,000 residents, compared with 5.74 among cities in no-permit states. This certainly does not confirm the gun control = higher violent crime hypothesis. Quite the opposite! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-h-bailey/does-gun-control-encourage-crime_b_7917684.html

Conclusion and Solution

In other Words: “The bullet we use in our guns to protect ourselves can ricochet, and even turn back on us like boomerangs. To save precious lives! Start gradual weapon control all over the country, and weapon amnesty and refunding for the most dangerous types. Perhaps we then can avoid Columbine, Sandy- Hook and Orlando mass murders on repeat!
